To optimize your website or blog pages to garner the best effect – which is recognition by the search engines and to rank high –you do need to know what off page SEO tactics to use and to utilise them as much as you can.
What Are Inbound Links (Backlinks)
These links are simply your URL hyperlinked on another website or blog and thus pointing to your site. They can come from other websites, blogs and many forms of social media and also articles.
The more inbound links you have the higher your ranking will become, and the more traffic you get will mean your Alexa score will drop.
While it may be doubtful as to whether Alexa rating is essential, people do look at it for an indicator of value for content and for value if you flip the site.
Using Link Farms
The first rule for getting inbound links is DON’T USE LINK FARMS! This is a black hat trick that will most likely get you Google slapped. Additionally, they are of dubious quality anyway.
The reputation (page rank) of the site that has your link is very important – and the good ones won’t be in link farms. Also, many of the links in link farms are also black hat and Google will know it sooner if not later. So play safe and work instead. There ain’t no free lunch.

How To Get Quality Links Pointing To Your Website
This can be achieved in a number of ways.
- Exchanging links with a reputable website or blog.
- Participating in forums – and once established there, you will be able to leave comments with your link attached.
- Article marketing – most Ezines have a resource box for your URL
- Leaving comments on blogs
Use your own blog – with links to your websites and squeeze pages.
Regarding exchanging links – occasionally another site will ask you can they add your URL – but, for the most part, it doesn’t happen very often unless you have a high page rank yourself.
But, don’t let that stop you asking – all they can do is say no or ignore your request. For a start go to websites that are in the same niche or related to it. Make sure that the sites are of good quality content and are often being added to and indexed. Then, gradually build up links with the next levels above you. Rinse and repeat.
Don’t Neglect Social Media As A Source For Inbound Links
By participating in the various social networking sites regularly, you will be surprised at the potential for traffic generation and page domination you could create.
The two most active are Facebook and Twitter – and it isn’t hard to establish a consistent input to them.
The next most important is probably YouTube – and because it is video based – and most prefer this medium. After these consider LinkedIn, plus possibly Hubpages.
Social Bookmarking is also an easy and can be automated method of doing off page SEO.
PPC
The one thing I haven’t given attention to here is PPC or using Adwords – these will get you onto page one – no hassles – but it can be at ruinous expense – so until you are accomplished or trained well in PPC strategies and tactics leave it alone.

The other side of the coin is your focus on “on page” SEO tactics
