Gaining inbound links or backlinking is probably the main factor in getting a high page rank, it is essential for search engine visibility.
Well, along with a couple of other things – 100’s of links and poor content and irrelevant KWs will not work as well.
One effective and FREE way to get backlinks is through article marketing – this has a twofold benefit – you get the linking through the resources box and traffic to build a list.
Submit first to Ezine and then to 10 of the next highest page ranked article directories. This can also be applied to newsletters and press releases.
Another Tactic
Put all your articles onto your site – this is good for content – but it is also a way to get reciprocal links (see above)
Then give permission for others to copy – in exchange for linking to your site – or by retaining your resource box.
Link Popularity
This is the number of web sites or web pages linked to you – and the more you have, the more ‘visible’ your site is to the search engines.
This will also help increase traffic to your site.
All in all what Google and other search engines want is quality content, well-organised, well-published sites with links to other related material..
Balance your efforts over all of these aspects, not just one.
Having authority sites linking to you is a goal to strive for, though it may not be easy while your site is young and of low or no PR.
Sites ending with .gov or .edu are ideal, but almost impossible to get – though that can depend on your niche.
It doesn’t hurt to request a link to you from a high ranking website – you may not get a response, but why not ask? Make an offer that will appeal to them.
First though, make sure you have link pointing to them. Google et al likes to see you offering authority sites to your readers. It will help you.
