Focus On On Page SEO Tactics

While perhaps not as effective for building page rank (off page SEO) a focus on ‘on page’ SEO is the first task because no one will want to link with you until you can demonstrate the quality of your site and its usefulness.

The other good thing about ‘on page’ SEO is that it can be DIY – and that costs you nothing – which isn’t a bad dividend.

Of course. you can pay up to thousands for others to do it for you – but it is easy to learn and more likely to be done completely if you do it yourself.

Many companies offering to do your SEO simply resort to PPC which is costly and may not even bring enough revenue in to cover your outlay.

The worst thing though is when your stop PPC, your site drops off page one.

Far better to do your own ‘on page’ SEO and then you know it is complete and regularly updated.

The Vital Elements Of SEO Strategy
Your website’s design or architectural structure should be such that a visitor finds it user friendly and easy to navigate around.

• Therefore only use parent pages with child pages one depth in – one link away.
• Incorporate internal links (links to other relevant pages on your site)
• Additionally you can have a link at the page end that will always return them to the home page or the parent page.

1. Content
This comes first after you set up your website, because all else is dependent on it. Write good quality, useful and readable content. Don’t waffle, don’t hard sell, but be informative and convey your expertise and that you are interested in providing solutions to whatever your visitor may be seeking.
• Keep your pages to about 500 words.
• Use headings and sub-heading to assist readability or scanning.
• Keep paragraphs short – no more than say 6 lines generally. Forget rules of grammar – people will find it easier if they want to scan a paragraph and it is only two or three sentences long.

2. Keywords
Seed the relevant keywords into your content – but don’t keyword ‘stuff’. Perhaps about 1-3% is sufficient. Google uses latent semantic indexing to look at relevant keywords, so you can use more than just the actual word or phrase – but ones related to them.
Choose long tail keywords that are preferably high demand and low supply. See also our keywords and latent semantic indexing page

3. Meta Tags
This is not something out of science fiction, but rather really just simple code. These tell the spiders what your page is about. So care needs to be taken

Your primary keyword should be in the page title (h1 heading), and in the page description

and at least once in a h2, or h3 sub-heading.

Alt Tags – these are the descriptions you place with images, and believe me Google searches images too. Ditto for audio and videos.
Other Tactics

Use anchor texts for internal links (that is the keyword in it)
Outbound links – to other relevant sites and to authority sites (e.g. Wkikipedia, a government agency)

Bold your keyword (page title) once in the first sentence (or paragraph) and italicise it once in the last paragraph.

Summary
1. Your Niche kw should be in the URL (Domain name)
2. KW should be in the title tag, description
3. KW density – about 1- 3% (don’t KW stuff)
4. Use Google’s Keyword tool
